How did it begin?
When eligible holidays overlap with weekends or other public holidays, a following non-holiday is designated instead. Overlapping substitute days or Saturday substitutes are adjusted to a later non-holiday under the rules.
A little more to discover
New Year’s Day and Memorial Day are excluded. The 2020–2050 data reflects past rule changes and assumes current rules continue in future; separately designated temporary holidays and election days are not included.
