Also called Chopail or Sawol Chopail, this day commemorates the Buddha’s birth.
How did it begin?
In Korea, this day follows the Buddhist tradition of commemorating Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month. Also called Sawol Chopail, it carries traditions of lighting lotus lanterns and other folk customs.
